不同文化的人们,在文化取向、生活方式、社会规范、价值观,民族性格、思维方式等方面存在差异。因此,在跨文化交际中,由于文化冲突,而导致的交际失误是难免的,如问候语、恭维语、自谦语、称谓语、祝福语、禁忌语、角色用语、吉祥语、委婉语的使用上,中西方人士之间也往往出现一些尴尬。

二、 产生差异的原因

首先,文化语言学研究表明,语言中储存了一个民族所有的社会生活经验,反映了该民族文化的全部特征。儿童在习得一种民族语言的同时,也在习得该民族的文化。所以,语言和语言的应用不可能脱离文化而单独存在。正如美国著名语言学家萨丕尔指出,“文化可以解释为社会所做的和所想的,而语言则是思想的具体表达方式。”由于语言是一种民族文化的表现与承载形式,不了解这个民族的文化,也就无法真正学好该民族的语言。外语教学不仅要介绍语言知识并进行“四会”技能训练,更应该把这种学习与训练放到文化教学的大背景中进行,最终使学生具有语用能力。其次,除了语言本身所承载的文化涵义外,西方国家的风俗习惯,人们的生活方式,,思维方式等都有着深厚的文化背景和底蕴。因此,在英语教学中还要适时地想学生介绍文化背景知识。如:在中国称中年以上的人为“老”,是尊敬的表示,可在西方,“老”却意味着衰朽残年,去日无多,因此西方人都忌讳“老”,都不服“老”。有为导游讲过这样一件事:在一次带队旅游中,我们的这位导游看到一位美国老太在艰难的爬山时,便上前去搀扶她,却遭到了老人的拒绝。为什么会发生这种事呢?因为在美国这样一个老人普遍得不到尊重的社会里,老人们养成了不服老,坚持独立的习惯。

三、 在英语教学时,我们应怎样结合日常生活向学生介绍英美国家文化,进而减少与以上类似的尴尬呢?

1. 营造宽松,民主,和谐的教学气氛,感受和体验文化

我们的传统观念主张孩子要服从老师和家长,要听大人的话。于是在课堂上就形成了教师灌输知识,学生被动接受的局面,教师有着相当高的权威。而西方国家讲究每个人都是独立的个体,父母经常会对孩子说“Thank you.”和“I’m sorry.”长幼之间平等对待。因此,在教学中从一开始就应鼓励每个学生积极尝试,学说英语,鼓励学生质疑。不应放过学生给老师的每一次帮助,并且勇与承认自己的过失,一句简单的“Thank you.”或“I’m sorry.”拉近了师生间的距离,把民主和平等的气氛带进了教堂。课堂上有时需要进行角色表演,在课外需组织一些与英语学习有关的party, 这时教师不是一个旁观者、监督者,而要和学生一起参与,在运用语言进行对话,交际的过程中,引导学生感受文化的存在。

2. 通过课堂教学培养文化意识

课堂是英语教学的主阵地,培养学生的文化意识可以渗透在教学的各个环节中。

(1) 在进行语言教学的同时,传授文化背景知识。教师需注意就语言材料中涉及的文化背景内容随语随文地进行解说,指明文化意义或使用中的文化习俗。如中国自古就有“有朋自远方来,不亦乐乎的说法。而英美人习惯让客人自主,随意,比较尊重个人意愿。英文“请客人吃苹果”若问“one apple?” 旨在征求客人的意见,而学生如说“Have some apples, please.”就带有些勉强。

(2) 在课堂活动中强化学生的文化意识。学生学习外语时往往难以摆脱母语的干扰,常常会出现一些Chinese English. 即使他们对一些固定的表达方式或习惯用语了如指掌,真正使用时,仍会出现错误。因此,在课堂上要多组织有一些以学生为主的联系活动,如: pair work, group work, role play等,一方面能激发学生学习英语的积极性,另一方面扩大学生的参与面,保证每个学生在课堂上都有机会学说英语。如学习了水果和食品的词汇后,组织学生动手做salad沙拉——这一西方国家所特有的食品。

3. 通过节日民俗活动培养文化意识

现在,过“洋节”成了年轻人的一种时尚。学校里的孩子受父母的周围同伴的影响,也对各种“洋节”津津乐道。我们不妨顺水推舟,在庆贺节日的同时,让学生感受一下中西方的节日文化。在圣诞节来临之际,给学生讲讲圣诞故事和圣诞习俗,听听歌曲Silent Night, 体会圣诞的宁静与祥和,然后同学间互赠贺卡,感受彼此的友情,同时不妨与中国的Spring Festival(春节)比较一下,看看中西方最大的节日有哪些异同。

1、教育背景中写相关课程。但千万不要为了拼凑篇幅,把所有的课程一股脑儿地都写上,如体育等。这样不很有效,别人也没耐心看。

2、奖学金一项一行。许多学生每年都有奖学金,这样一来,也可写出三四行,甚至更多。

3、拉长句子。每个句子都可以加入一些词拉长一些。其实拉长并不难,难的是缩短。

4、自然地多换行,多写点句。

5、加大字号。可将10号,小五改成12号,小四。

应注意避免的地方:

1、长句:没有人愿意看太冗长的句子,而且切记yris(your resume is scanned,no tread)原则,雇主只是在扫描您的简历。

2、缩写:因为外行人往往很难看懂。不要想当然地认为这是人所皆知的事情。

3、"i"我:因为正规简历多用点句,以动词开头,是没有"我"的。当然若在公司简介中一定要用到一两次,也不是完全不可以。

4、不利因素:我们讲过简历的原则是不要撒谎,但不写不等于骗人。大家可能还记得前面提到过的"简历中的任何字句都可能成为面试中的话题。"扬长避短的道理,我想大家都是知道的。

命题方法在段落写作中的体现

这次大作文的命题方法出现了一些变化,无论是图画内容、文字暗示还是主题方面,都较之以前更灵活。下面我们就来看看这些变化在具体段落的描写中如何体现。

在图画描述段中的体现

2016年的考题采取了双图描述的形式,虽然两幅图画中只有两个人物(儿子和父亲),但是由于是两幅图画,人物的动作和表情也随之变得复杂和多样化。在这种情况之下,考生无论从儿子还是父亲的角度写,都能展开写作。从表面上,考生似乎拥有了较大的写作自由度,但是因为写作中会不断涉及儿子和父亲,考生在主语转换、使用人称时往往会产生混乱,这其实是增加了考试难度。

2016年的大作文在文字暗示上也增加了难度。文字暗示有时是一个单词,有时是一句话,这次考试是图画中有一句话,下方有一个文字标题。2014年的写作考题中有两个汉字:相携。2015年的写作考题中有一句话:手机时代的聚会。而2016年写作考题图画中有一句话:“儿子,你给我好好学习!”图画下方则设置了文字暗示:与其只提要求,不如做个榜样。考生如果把其中任意一个翻译出来,都可能会落入“翻译陷阱”。这也是考研英语写作最难对付的一点。尽管考生可以通过单句翻译、摘字提炼两种方法对文字暗示进行翻译或阐释,但是考生如果在翻译过程中出现语法、用词、拼写等错误,则会被扣除相应的分数。换言之,增分点等于失分点。在笔者看来,本次文字暗示的考法设置得十分“老辣”,逼着考生临场发挥,也比较能看出考生的实际水平。关于文字暗示的翻译,笔者建议考生在用词方面选择自己熟悉的词汇,把文字暗示的内容表达清楚即可,不要用大词和难词,以免因不熟悉其拼写或用法导致翻译错误。

关于描述段,笔者建议考生这样写:①先从人物的动作和神态写起。比如本次考题,考生可以先描写第一幅图画中父亲坐在沙发上舒服地看电视,对儿子的学习情况漠不关心,然后描述第二幅图画,写父子两人共同学习,前一幅图画描写可多一些,后一幅图画描写少一些。②将文字暗示放在最后写。这样一来,考生就能把图画内容简单明了地交代清楚了。

请看下面参考例文:

本次大作文的主题将教育话题和家庭关系进行了组合。这样的出题思路很妙。如果直接考查学校教育类话题,那很多考生就会套用常见的教育类题材的模板来完成写作。但命题者将教育问题放在家庭背景内,考生就需要考虑到家庭影响,同时要处理其和教育题材的关系。这样一来,简单的套写就无用武之地了。

教育类话题在考研英语写作中曾有所涉及,比如2003年的“温室花朵经不起风雨”。考生如果背过2003年的范文,在本次考试时没有认真审题,生搬硬套2003年范文的内容,那必然导致跑题。家庭关系的话题在历年考研英语写作中也涉及过,比如2005年的“养老足球赛”、2014年的 “相携”。但这两道考题谈的是赡养、孝道,与今年的图片内容存在差异,考生无法整段套写。此次考试命题的“厉害”之处在于:主题看似简单,都是以前考生曾经见过的话题,但又不能一字不改地套写;主题十分开放,既不与考生的知识背景相冲突,也没有用偏题难为人,但是“教育”和“家庭”两个话题均要有所涉及,又不能顾此失彼。这样的命题思路就对考生的布局和阐述能力提出了较高的要求。

那关于阐述和看法段,考生该如何应对呢?笔者建议考生首先要认真审题,确定主题后,阐释和论证图片表达的思想。比如本次考题,考生可以顺着家庭关系的角度写儿女教育,“快打快撤”,不在子女和父亲的亲情上浪费笔墨,而是将重心集中于父亲的行为上,强调“以身作则”的重要性。考生在给出自己的观点和看法时,要根据图片内容,不要凭空发表意见。比如本次考题,考生可以根据题目图画中父亲看电视的行为,联想到有些父母把大量时间用在娱乐上,然后提出父母应提高自身素养的建议。

请看以下参考例文:

应对题型多变的方法

看完以上笔者的分析,考生可能会问:在备考阶段该如何应对这种灵活多变的考题呢?笔者总结了三个方法,供考生借鉴。

方法一 加强审题训练

考题多变、双主题组合――这样的命题思路看似复杂,但是对考生也有好处:不同水平的考生拿到题目后,都能根据题目暗示写出一些内容。不过如果考生只会背范文,不注重审题,或者总想整段照搬模板,则很容易出问题。比如2016年的这道考题,题目明确要求考生对家庭环境和儿女教育进行阐述,而考生依然生搬硬套“不要溺爱子女,让他们独立成长”,就会出现内容和主题严重不符的情况,这样的作文会被判定为套用模板,得分会很低。出现这种情况,主要是因为考生没有仔细审题,机械地将背过的句子进行堆砌,最终导致内容跑题。在这种情况下,考生应该首先建立起寻找主题的意识,平时多做审题训练,步骤如下:①阅读题目的文字暗示,大致判断一下,这些文字暗示的是哪个主题方向,是养老话题、网络话题、教育话题还是两个话题组合出题。②理清思路,回想一下自己背的素材范文内,哪些是切题的,哪些是不切题的。有了这两个判定之后,再下笔写作,就不会生搬硬套或跑题了。

方法二 注意归纳总结

归纳总结是审题训练的延续,建议考生尽量少背或者不背套句和空话,而把主要精力放在以下两个方面:①将与各种题材相关的好词、好句摘录出来。②将背诵重心放在和题材相关的词句方面。这样一来,考生平时对各种题材的常用语句有所积累,考试时印象深刻,自然有话可说。此外,将复习重点放在有效表达上,也能确保用词准确。而语言的准确性又恰恰是作文评分的重要依据之一,考生如果在备考阶段多积累有效表达,那么考试时出现错误的可能性就少,也更容易得到高分。

一天,猎人高高兴兴地带着老鹰和鹦鹉去赶集。由于匆忙,猎人在途中滑了一跤。这一下,原本停在他肩上的老鹰受到惊吓,匆忙起飞,结果利爪不小心把猎人抓成了大花脸。
